520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. "Say What You Mean 2 is intended to develop and consolidate speaking skills in students at the CEFR B1 level who intend to use English for general purposes, academic study, or for the workplace. The book presents language that will be useful to students whose personal, academic, and professional needs include discussion skills, presentation skills, and group work. Students learn and practise phrases and expressions that they can use to share their opinions, deliver information, reach a consensus, keep a discussion on track, and much more. Language development, however, is not the only focus of the book. An important feature of the book is the focus on strategies for successful communication. Students taking part in discussions need to know more than language to agree and disagree: they need to find ways to develop confidence in speaking, continue a discussion that appears to have run its course, and address issues such as classmates who are hard to understand or who do not wish to contribute. Students planning presentations need strategies for designing effective slides and overcoming nerves. Those whose academic or professional needs include working in teams need an understanding of how groups function and how to work successfully with others. Those who need to find solutions to problems may wonder how to come up with creative ideas. The book provides tips in all of these areas, and other situations as well." (Introduction, p. iii)
