520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. |
Summary, etc. |
"This book explores different aspects of language transfer, a phenomenon first described over a century ago, but which has only recently become an important subject of language study. Language transfer is considered here as a result of language contact in bilingual and multilingual language acquisition and learning contexts. The major focus of this book is on the lexical structures of language transfer. In its four sections the volume presents the following aspects of the phenomenon: Language Transfer and Language Contact Revisited is devoted to the theoretical aspects of the problem; Language Contact Observed consists of studies which are corpus based; Lexical Transfer in Language Processing is a study of interference in translation tasks, acquisition of lexis, code mixing and the role of instructional input; and Lexical Transfer in Fixed Expressions deals with the acquisition and processing of L2 idioms, phrasal verbs, fixed phrases, collocations and figurative expressions. This book is designed to be useful both to psycholinguists and to foreign language teachers interested in language learning processes and to contribute to the further development of the subject."
