SUMMARY:
"This book is divided into five parts. Part I includes three previously published articles and one specifically written for this book. Two of the three previously articles are reviews of the literature from different perspectives and employ different review methodology. And the other one is a theoretical article discussing research paradigms and methods for CALL.The one written for this book discusses scientific research in general. The goal of part I is to give an overview of research and development issues in the field of using technology to improve language education. Part II through Part V are organized according to the ways technology can be uses to enhance language learning, each with an introductory chapter that elaborates the theoretical foundations and relevant second language acquisition (SLA) literature that support the technology used included in the respective part. Specifically, Part II includes five studies that examined the effectiveness of using technology to improve input. Part III includes three studies that explored how to use technology to support communicative practice and Part IV includes three articles that studied the use of technology to improve feedback.
Part V includes one study that explored the use of technology to construct a system-level language learning environment. The book concludes with a chapter that discusses future directions of research in light of emerging trends of technology development and expected changes of using technology in languages education."
